Clandeblog 5 perfect picnic spots near Clandeboye Lodge

Whether you're working up an appetite with a walk or simply relaxing, Clandeboye Lodge is right next to a feast of picnic spots.

You don’t have to go very far to enjoy an intimate picnic - with the range of stunning forest, beach and countryside locations close by at the Clandeboye Lodge, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

1. Perfect picnic spots in tranquil gardens

The Walled Garden in Bangor's Castle Park is a hidden gem. The garden is full of colourful blooms and the fragrant air is alive with the sound of bees and birds. The walls provide a sense of privacy and peace, making it easy to forget the bustle of the outside world. Not too far away there is also Ward Park where you can admire the duck ponds and impressive flower beds on the flat grass. Or for some shelter from any rain, why not sit under the bandstand?

2. Perfect picnic spots on the beach

The sand and sea make for a perfect backdrop! There’s nothing more refreshing than eating alfresco with the sea breeze and the sound of waves. You'll find some of our favourite beaches along the North Down coast such as Crawfordsburn, Helens Bay, Ballyholme, Seapark and Groomsport beaches. Why not take some time after your picnic and walk along this beautiful stretch of coast? Or if you're feeling brave, why not take a dip in the sea?

3. Perfect picnic spots in the woods

Clandeboye Lodge is situated next to some of Northern Ireland's most beautiful woodland picnic spots, so you can easily get away from it all and enjoy some quality time in nature. Take your pick from Clandeboye Way, Crawforsburn Country Park, Cairn Wood and Killynether Wood.

4. Perfect picnic spots with panoramic views

If you’re looking for a historical picnic spot with a view, check out Scrabo Tower! Climb Scrabo Hill and you will be rewarded with panoramic views over Strangford Lough and North Down on a sunny day. You can pack a picnic blanket or why not utilise the picnic area just below the summit? Another great spot for a scenic picnic is Redburn Country Park. Hike to the top and you'll be rewarded with spectacular views of Belfast Lough.

5. Perfect picnic spots in Bangor

Bangor Pier is a lovely spot to relax and enjoy the view with your picnic. Or, if you're looking for a spot to picnic with the whole family, Pickie Fun Park is a great option. There's plenty of space and there are also several tables and benches scattered throughout the park. Plus, there's a playground and exciting small rides to keep the children entertained.
